On March 25th 4 board memebers of the KSRT boarded a train headed for Washington D.C. Jackie Darling, Cyndi Gibbs, Jessica Easterling, and Jason Applegate attended the 2012 RT in DC event held by the ASRT in Washington. They joined over 110 other RT’s from 50 states to go up on capitol hill and advocate for the CARE Bill or HR 2104. As far as the Kentucky delegates were concerned it was a positive experience. THe CARE Bill has been sponsored by Kentucky’s own Representative Ed. Whitfield. Congressman Whitfield’s office has tirelessly supported the CARE Bill and promoted it in the House of Representatives for several years. In years past the CARE Bill has passed the Senate by unanimous consent, but failed to make it through the House. Currently we have 3 co-sponsors in Congressmen Ed Whitfield, Hal Rogers, and Brett Guthrie. We also got a verbal committ from Representative John Yarmouth, Representative Rand Pauls office and Representative Ben Chandlers office. That is 6 out of 8 of our congressmen. Senator Mitch McConnell’s office has never commited to co-sponsor the bill, but has pledged support. This is not an unusual approach considering his position in the senate as Minority Leader. Representative Geoff Davis is currently serving on the House Ways and Means Committee and has been asked not to co-sponsor any bills that originate in that committee. That would include the CARE Bill. So, overall, we seemed to have the support of all of the Kentucky congressmen this year. Let’s hope for a sucessful year.
